Becoming Frugal: A Beginners Tale

I am now obsessed with the show Extreme Couponing. My goal is to learn how to save a lot of money by doing this, though I'm finding it hard to get started. I've found a few websites with the help of some facebook friends, but I still feel completely overwhelmed. I think I may need to find a self-help website where I can figure out how to get started. Picking up a newspaper wouldn't hurt either! Does anyone have any suggestions for me? All advice is definitely welcome!

You're probably wondering why I've decided to start clipping coupons. Chris and I have a lot of expenses coming up. He wants to go to Blizzcon (and he's going to get 4 tickets for $175 each. My heart hurts just thinking of that price…), we have to get a new digital SLR camera for my classes this fall (that price hurts too), we're going to Cali in October for Blizzcon, and then again for either Thanksgiving or Christmas (I wish it were both!). So…as you can see, we'll need to save a little more than $2000 to come out even on our budget by the end of the year! My thinking is that couponing is a cheap and easy way to save lots of money! Thank you TLC and Extreme Couponing for my brand new addiction. I'm sure Chris really appreciates it too!

Extra Notes: I have found some great websites for those who want to start saving, but just aren't sure how to start. Click Here. From this site, you'll be able to go to other sites with more information! You'll find that this woman gives you realistic expectations about your first time. Don't expect to save 98% your first time out, but it is completely possible to save up to 50%. Have fun!!!

My advise is to not buy an item just because you have a coupon...you end up spending more money in the long run...good luck!!

We should talk lady! I've been couponing for about 4 months now. It's a pain to get started, but totally worth it! My favorite site is www.thekrazycouponlady.com

Thank you Kelly!

Emily, we definitely should! I'm having the hardest time getting started so talking to someone who knows what they're doing would be great! :-)
